About
My name is Igor Shutov (b. 1984). I was born in Russia and now live and work in Tallinn, Estonia. I see myself more as an observer than an active participant in what is happening around me. My photography grew out of walking and careful attention to everyday urban space. I am interested in ordinary objects, forms, surfaces, and places that usually go unnoticed. I do not photograph people directly, but my images are still connected to their presence. It appears indirectly — through traces of use, objects, altered surfaces, and the way a space has been created and left behind. The absence of a person in the frame allows me to focus on the place itself and on how human presence can still be felt within it. I do not aim to interpret or stage reality. What matters to me is to record space as it already exists, without adding elements or constructing scenes. Simplicity and restraint are not goals in themselves, but a way for me to work honestly and attentively with what is already there.
